A Recognizable Voice

Christ's Voice Above All Others

"My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me. I give them eternal life, and they will never perish, and no one is able to snatch them out of my hand." (John 10: 27-28)

When I think of my childhood, I think of those memories that bring joy to my heart. Waking up on Saturday mornings to the sound of my mother's voice and the smell of breakfast ready and waiting on the table is one of my fondest memories. Hearing her voice was a sweet sweet sound.  After breakfast, I would rush out the door to play with my friends that lived on my block. We spent hours on end playing softball, riding our bikes down the street practicing silly stunts that almost always lead to skint knees and elbows, and playing in the lawn sprinklers.  I remember only going inside to eat lunch or dinner, then back out for the rest of the day. As the day turned to dusk and the sun peeked the horizon, again I could hear my mother's voice calling me home. Her voice was one that I could distinguish above all the other moms voices calling their children as my own mother's voice. When Jesus returns we will recognize His voice. If we are His children, that voice will be one of the sweetest sounds to our ears. His voice will be a voice that is distinguishable above all the others. What great comfort and peace that brings to my heart.

Lord, thank you for being the Good Shepherd who protects us and calls us with a recognizable voice. Thank you for the promise of eternal life that you alone have given to us. In Jesus name I pray. Amen.
