His Healing Touch

Jesus Betrayed Yet He Heals with His Touch.

The accounts leading up to Jesus betrayal and arrest record Judas Iscariot, whom had made a deal to betray Jesus and was one of the twelve (Luke 22:4-5) betrayed Jesus with a kiss. (Luke 22:47) In some cultures a kiss is a greeting, but this was the premeditated and prearranged signal by which Judas would identify Jesus Christ to the soldiers. Even though Jesus would be betrayed by a kiss and then arrested, still yet, he had shown compassion toward one of the soldiers, his enemy, and healed with his touch.

...but Jesus said to him, "Judas, would you betray the Son of Man with a kiss?" and when those who were around him saw what would follow, they said, "Lord, shall we strike with the sword?" And one of them, whom was Peter (John 18:10), struck the servant, Malchus (John 18:10) of the high priest and cut off his right ear. But Jesus said, " No more of this!" And he touched his ear and healed him. (Luke 22:48-51)

Throughout the Gospels Jesus healed many people of their infirmities. He, being once more deeply moved, raised Lazarus from the tomb. (John 11:38-44) However, this is the only instance in all of Scripture where Jesus Christ healed a flesh wound. Christ healed an enemy! What kind of man is this that could forgive so much? Why should this matter to you and I? Even without the soldier asking for healing and without any evidence of faith from the recipient, Christ healed him!

Do you believe that we are all enemies of Christ and in need of healing from the sin in our lives? Scripture says, for we all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God. (Romans 3:23) Ponder this question today. What kind of answer could you give? Christ made a way for all those who would believe in him and thereby making them no longer enemies of Christ. Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus: Whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God; To declare, I say, at this time his righteousness: that he might be just, and the justifier of him which believeth in Jesus. (Romans 3:23-26 KJV)
