His Promise and the Great Commission

He Has Risen!

Sunday, April 17, 2022,  is the day we will celebrate Easter. Our Lord and Savior has kept his promise. He has risen! In this we can have confidence.

Jesus, while speaking to his disciples, told them that he would meet them in Galilee after he was raised. (Matthew 26:32) This is an important detail not to be missed. It is this detail we are reading today that should give us the same hope and confidence that one day we too shall see him face to face.

As the angel spoke to the women when they came to the tomb to complete the burial process for Jesus, he would remind them of the very promises Jesus had spoken to his disciples. They would see him again. The angel said, "He is not here, he has risen, just as he said." (Matthew 28:6) With his assurance, the women would be reminded of the trust they had in everything that Jesus had said and did. We too can place our trust and confidence in the same Jesus. Then the angel invited them to "come and see where he lay". (v6) Jesus was not there. Had his body lay in the tomb, we would have no hope of eternal salvation. As the women looked on, the angel commissioned the women to go quickly and tell the disciples that he would go ahead of them into Galilee (v7). Why, because there is urgency in communicating the Gospel to a lost and dying world. Not only for those of Jesus' time but for the present-day audience as well. We are that audience. The angel was God's messenger. And as such, he spoke by his authority given to him "Now I have told you." (v7) Just as the disciples needed to hear of Jesus' resurrection to give them hope, we, too, need to hear the good news, As children of God, we are commissioned with the same authority and power to go and tell the good news to the world. It is our duty and calling to let the world know that Jesus is Alive!
