In the Image of God

He Created Man

The very first book of the Bible is filled with the narrative of God's word. The narrative of His work is accented with poetic features in Genesis I. Refrains and repetitions thread their way through the creation story. God said, "Let there be..." And God saw that it was good. And there was evening and there was morning, the {nth} day,  These phrases create an inflection of his voice as we read the account so that the narrative falls into a comfortable rhythm. Then came man. God breaks from his pattern of creating all that he created. The Godhead reflects the significance of his new creature who is about to be placed in the order of creation. No one but man had been pondered, deliberated on, or discussed over in the way that man has been. So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them (Genesis 1: 26-27). The LORD God formed the man of the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man become a living creature (Genesis 2:7). The master craftsman skillfully shapes man and gives, from his own nostrils, the breath of life.  Every breath we take is from God and by God and for God. Let us remember who we are. We are the image of God and as such our lives should reflect who he is.
LORD, I come to you today with a humble heart. I am in awe of your wondrous works. The magnificent symphony of Your words spoken out loud came into existence. However, when it came to the creation of man, by your very hands you molded and shaped every part of our being. Then, loving your creation so much, you gave us your very breath of life. With every breath I take I am reminded that my God loved me enough to form me and to give me life so that I may live a life to worship You. May my worship be pleasing to you today. May my words be true and honorable to you God of my salvation. Thank you for Jesus Christ my redeemer. It is in his precious name I pray. Amen.
