Who is Lord and Savior of your life?
David was the great king of Judah. He traced his ancestry back to the inheritance he received from Jacob. But it was only a hint of the greater Son who was to come. He would be both David's son and David's Lord, the One who would ultimately fulfill this promise of the kingship that would not depart from Judah until Shiloh comes.
"The scepter shall not depart from Judah, nor the ruler's staff from between his feet, until tribute comes to him; and to him shall be the obedience of the peoples. (Genesis 49:10)
Even in this text the promise of the gospel unfolds before us. This promise includes not only a future Savior who would crush the head of the serpent (Genesis 3:15) but the promise of a coming King who would fulfill the destiny of Judah. The great Son and royal King to whom God the Father gives the promised blessing of kingship is Jesus.
"I am the Alpha and the Omega, the first and the last, the beginning and the end."
