As the deer pants for flowing streams, so pants my soul for you, O God (Psalm 42:1)
This Psalm is a picture of the Psalmists heart. The writer was facing a severe divine drought in his life. He was seeking after God and longing for the refreshing of his soul. Taking a simile from nature, the Psalmist likens his thirst as when a deer, lead by severe thirst, pants for water. This thirst drives the deer until he has found what its physical body needs. As the deer seeks after the flowing stream of water until it finds drink, so shall our soul seek after the living stream of water that revitalizes our soul.
LORD, thank you that you are the living water that can quench my soul. When I am weak you make me strong. When I seek after you, you have already sought after me. Thank you for loving me. Thank you for searching for me and giving me the living water my soul longs after. In Jesus name I pray. Amen.
