Our words should be always gracious, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how you ought to answer a person (Colossians 4:6). A significant part of our sanctification involves our speech. With this admonition, Paul focuses on salt's ability for flavor. Savory speech presents the truth in a way that is attractive and pleasing. Words seasoned with salt never compromise the truth because they preserve and reflect the purity of the gospel without being unkind or harsh.
We may not give much thought about salt, yet it is a part of our daily lives. It is in almost everything we consume for health and well being. When we reflect on God's Word, however, we see the significant role it plays in both testaments as well as the challenge it presents to us to become savory saints. As believers we are to be a purifying influence in the world through our Christlike testimony. For, afterall, we are the salt of the earth. (Matthew 5:13).
Lord, I come to you with a humble heart. Please help me to continue to preserve your word in my heart so that I may not sin against you. May my words and actions always reflect the truth of your word. Search my heart and see if there be any wicked way in me. Forgive me when I sin and fall short of your glory. Give me the strength to continue the race and endure to the end the path you have for me. May my life reflect Jesus Christ my Savior and Lord and no one else. May the words of my mouth come truth, honor and worship. I fall on my knees and give you praise. It is in Jesus precious name I pray, amen.
