Stand Firm

A Call for the Endurance and Faith of the Saints

There are characteristics of the saved. In 2 Thessalonians, Paul noted that believers are, "beloved by the Lord, chosen for salvation from eternity past, set apart from sin by the Spirit, and called to eternal glory, i.e., the sharing of the very "glory of our Lord Jesus Christ".

Paul reminded the Thessalonians in this section that there was no need for them to be troubled, thinking that they had missed the rapture and thus were in the day of the Lord. For they were destined for glory, not judgment, and would not be included with those deceived and judged in that day.

2 Thessalonians 2:13-14 states: "But we ought always to give thanks to God for you, brothers beloved by the Lord, because God chose you as the firstfruits to be saved, through sanctification by the Spirit and belief in the truth. To this he called you through our gospel, so that you may obtain the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ. So then, brothers, stand firm and hold to the traditions that you were taught by us, either by our spoken word or by our letter.

Pauls exhortation for the saints; Now may our Lord Jesus Christ himself and God our Father, who loved us and gave us eternal comfort and good hope through grace, comfort your hearts and establish them in every good work and word (v.15).

Lord, my God and my Redeemer, I come to you with a humble heart. Thank you for giving us the hope and comfort to stand firm on the true foundation. Thank you for the grace poured out on us. May we ever keep your word before our hearts and minds. I pray for those around me, family, friends, co-workers, that they may stand firm on the true foundation of faith in Jesus Christ. And, while it is still called today, for those who are not yet believers in You to come to a saving faith in Jesus Christ. Come to You in repentance of their sin against You so that they may have eternal life. We are all sinners in need of forgiveness. May our prayer be acceptable to you. May it be a pleasing sound to your ears. We lift our voices in prayer for all of those around us to stand firm in the faith as the day grows darker. May we be your light in this age we live in. Even so, come Lord Jesus, come. It is in the name of Jesus Christ I pray, amen.
