Standing Firm

Always stand for what is right

Do you often change your tune about something you feel strongly about because you are near someone with a different opinion or conviction than you? It is often difficult to take a stand for what you really believe to be right when your friends, family, or coworkers don't agree with you. However, with God's help, it is possible.

In Daniel 1:8, Daniel made up his mind not to defile himself by eating the food and wine given to them by the king. Daniel stood firm for what was right in the sight of God.

King Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon came to Jerusalem and besieged it with his armies....Then {Nebuchadnezzar} ordered Ashpenaz, who was in charge of the palace officials, to bring to the palace some of the young men of Judah's royal family and other noble families, who had been brought to Babylon as captives. "Select only strong, healthy, and good-looking young men," he said. "Make sure they are well versed in every branch of learning, are gifted with knowledge and good sense, and have the poise needed to serve in the royal palace. Teach these young men the language and literature of the Babylonians." The king assigned them a daily ration of the best food and wine from his own kitchens...Some of them would be made his advisers in the royal court. Daniel, Hananiah, Mishail, and Azariah were four of the young men chosen, all from the tribe of Judah...But Daniel made up his mind not to defile himself by eating the food and wine given to them by the king. He asked the chief official for permission to eat other things instead. (Daniel 1:1-3, 6, 8)

Daniel stood firm on what was right, even when the person he choose to stand up to was the king. When was the last time you stood firm without faltering on what you know to be right and true? Stand firm! With God's help, it is possible.

Lord, help us to stand firm on the things that are right in your eye's. Help us not to be swayed by the world and to keep our hearts and minds focused on you. Thank you Lord that you love us. In Jesus name we pray, Amen
