A Firm Foundation
There is an old hymn that goes something like this;
1 My hope is built on nothing less
than Jesus' blood and righteousness;
I dare not trust the sweetest frame,
but wholly lean on Jesus' name.
On Christ, the solid rock, I stand;
all other ground is sinking sand,
all other ground is sinking sand.
2 When darkness veils his lovely face,
I rest on His unchanging grace;
in every high and stormy gale,
my anchor holds within the veil. [Refrain]
3 His oath, his covenant, his blood
support me in the whelming flood;
when all around my soul gives way,
He then is all my hope and stay. [Refrain]
4 When he shall come with trumpet sound,
O may I then in Him be found,
Dressed in His righteousness alone,
faultless to stand before the throne. [Refrain]
~Edward Mote 1834
In Matthew 7: 24-27, Christ tells us to build our houses on the rock. "Everyone then who hears these words of mine and does them will be like a wise man who built his house on the rock". He wasn't talking about our material houses, He was speaking of our spiritual house. Our lives should be built on nothing less than Jesus Christ and his righteousness. The trials may come, but we are victor's through Christ. "And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house, but it did not fall, because it had been built on the rock." (v25) Christ is the solid rock that we can build a firm foundation on. If built on anything less, it will not stand.
