Watch and Pray

...so that you may not fall into temptation...

Right before Jesus was to be betrayed by Judas, while praying in the Garden of Gethsemane, Jesus found his disciples sleeping. He had told them to "watch and pray, stay awake." (Matthew 26:36-45) As Christians, are we watching? Are we staying awake so that we, too, may watch out for the real enemy of our souls? Jesus said, "Watch with Me so that you do not fall into temptation." The spirit indeed is willing but the flesh is weak." (Matthew 26: 41) Are we allowing our weaknesses to hinder us from being alert so that we do not fall into temptation? The tenderness of this plea is touching. Jesus himself was well acquainted with the feeling of human infirmities. Hebrews 4:15 says, "For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but one who in every respect has been tempted as we are, yet without sin.
