Not A Distant God
Christianity is more than a philosophy. It's not merely a set of rules for our lives or a collection of religious practices for us to follow. Christianity at its core is a relationship with God through faith in Jesus Christ His son. The Holy Spirit is the Person of God present with us—the Person of God to whom we relate directly. As followers of Christ, we don't worship a distant God for he is right here with us!
In the Gospel of John chapters 12:23-24; 13:1, Jesus instructed His disciples to remain in Him, keep His commandments, and love one another. He promised that when He left, He would send another Counselor and Advocate to them. This is He in whom testifies continually of the truth of Jesus. Jesus departure actually benefits those who follow Him. Jesus spoke these words, "But very truly I tell you, it is for your good that I am going away. Unless I go away, the Advocate will not come to you; but if I go, I will send him to you." ( John 16:7) The Holy Spirit guides us, teaches us, empowers us, comforts us, and convicts us of our sins. The Holy Spirit works in us and among us.
LORD, I come to you with a humble heart of praise thanking you for sending your Son Jesus Christ. Thank you for the Holy Spirit—the Person of God—sent to guide and protect us. Thank you for the comfort and peace knowing that we are never alone. You are right here, right here with me just as surely as I breath, you are here. In Jesus name I pray. Amen
